Happy Thursday and welcome back to the Weekly Up-Dave! How are you all doing? I hope the answer is fantastic. As I type this I just completed two large deadlines this past week and am working on this newsletter, resting, and then getting ready to work on a few more in the week ahead. Times are very busy, which is great because that means I will soon have new comics to share with you, and a behind the scenes look at those new projects!
Speaking of which…last Friday my next comic book project got announced. It is a short story in DC’s summer anthology DC’s Kal-El-Fornia Love! The concept behind this anthology is that each story stars a different member of the Superman cast of characters on some summer-set adventure in the great state of California. It’s a very fun idea, great word play, and really pushed me to come up with some fun ideas.
My story is about Superboy (Conner Kent) and Superman (Jon Kent, formerly a Superboy himself) teaming up for an adventure set in the California Redwoods following a mysterious path of destruction. Conner Kent is a character I have loved ever since I was a kid so the opportunity to write him has been incredible, and Jon Kent is a modern favorite and I become a greater fan re-reading all his comics in preperation for this assignment. It’s going to be awesome.
You know what’s going to make it especially awesome? The story is drawn by the brilliant comic artist Joey Vazquez. You may know Joey from his work on Black Cat, Amazing Spider-Man, JSA, The Magnificent Ms. Marvel, and Marvel Team-Up. And if you don’t know him yet? You’re going to. I knew and was a fan of Joey’s before but he blew away with his work on this story and was an awesome collaborator. I will be doing an interview Joey closer to when the story comes out on July 30th, 2025 which means the book FOC’s sometime in late June 2025.

And to put things even further over the top, I was edited once again by the great Andrew Marino who really pushed and challenged me with this story, and I am happy he did. This is my seventh short story in the Superman part of the DCU and it’s an honor to be back. Especially to do something Superman related during the big Summer of Superman celebrating the new movie.
The main cover for DC’s Kal-El-Fornia Dreaming is by Bernard Chang. And the two variant covers below are by Mahmud Asrar and Marcio Takara respectively. Definitely put your order in for this soon. DC is going to be putting out a lot of great Superman content as I mentioned above, and you should seek out all of it.

Stay safe!
