25 Hopes for 2025
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYBODY! And welcome to the first Weekly UpDave of 2025. And we’re going to kick off this year the same way we did last year. I am going to list my hopes, dreams, and goals for 2025. Now, last year in 2024, I made a list of 24 things. This year? We are doing 25! Let’s get into the list!
Try to get lunch/dinner with a friend most weeks of the year.
Do a Newsletter every week in 2025.
Read a minimum of 12 books (non-comic).
See a live comedy show, it’s been a while.
Write longer comic projects and more comic projects.
Do five cool LA things I’ve never done before.
Co-write or collaborate with another writer on a project.
Get back into a regular meditation practice.
Go to a Comic Convention I haven’t been to before.
Write a non-comic project.
Get professional headshots/pictures taken.
Meet a notable non-comics person that I respect/admire.
Get to the gym a minimum of 3x a week, anything more is great, anything less…come on, Davey.
Teach a comic book writing one-off class or guest lecture at a comic writing class.
Text a friend every day.
Cut out unnecessary deliveries. If you can go get it in real life, go get it. Touch grass.
Keep improving my self-promotion skills and decrease my self-consciousness about it.
Get the Newsletter subscriber count into the triple digits. Right now we’re at 60.
Try watching a movie I haven’t seen before every week.
Spend most of Saturday out of the house.
Recover from professional and personal rejection faster, the price of putting yourself out there.
Get at least one creator-owned comic project off the ground.
Be more active in the LA comic scene.
Write for a bucket list character.
Write for more publishers I haven’t worked with yet. It was a thrill writing for DC, IDW, and REDACTED in 2024. I loved working with them, and I hope to work with them more and add more comic publishers to my resume. And if any of those other publishers are reading this, a big reminder…I am very much open for business.
A nice mix of professional and personal goals. For the last two years, I have been focused mainly on my career. This year I want to be focused on my whole life. Enjoy things more. Have fewer regrets. And succeed in the personal and professional. I think I can do it. We’ll check in on this list in six months and see how I’m doing!
Stay safe and Happy New Year!
